What Osky Open Bible is striving to become
Pursuing God and People with Love
We are a community of Christ-followers who take the great commandment seriously! Pursuing God and People with Love means fulfilling the Great Commandment, loving the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, body, and soul, and loving your neighbor as yourself. Were a church that wants to meet you right where you are in your walk with Christ. We aren't perfect and only strive to be more like Jesus every day and we always strive to create an environment where you can explore what it means to be Christian and ask questions openly about your faith freely without being judged.
Who We Are Becoming
In February 2022, we embraced our purpose of being a church that is Pursuing God and People with Love, while embracing our core values: a Spirit-Filled Christlike Community. We are in the process (isn't everyone) of owning that purpose and really making it the core of who we are as a church.
At the time of Salvation, the Holy Spirit unites with our spirit to testify to Christians and unbelievers that we are God's children. If we are God's children then we should have a deep desire to imitate Christlikeness in our lives. This means that Christians should put into practice the "One Anotherings" and exhibit the fruit of the spirit. Each Christian should have a deep desire to be led by the Holy Spirit in their lives and to discover their gifts and use them to impact the church, community and culture around them. Jesus did not call his disciples (us) to be benchwarmers. In the great commission Jesus called us to win the lost to Christ, to help new disciples grow through teaching them everything Jesus taught us and to send out disciples to make more disciples. In Acts 1 we are told that we will receive the power of the Spirit when it comes upon us and that we are to be witnesses to everyone (share the Gospel with them).
We believe that as Christians we need to do a better job at being like Christ. Jesus, Himself asked us to imitate Him many times in scripture. Jesus was the perfect model of how we are to live our lives, yet often a Christian's life does not match up. In John 5, Jesus explains that He only does what He sees His Father doing. The same Spirit that lives inside of the Father, and that directed Jesus, lives inside of us. Through the Holy Spirit, we can be empowered to be like Jesus. The Fruit of the Spirit flowing out of our lives is the evidence that we are being Christlike. Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT) "But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!"
We believe one of the greatest draws of Christianity should be our supernatural unity and love for each other. Psalms 133:1 says "How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!" We believe the early Church, in the book of Acts, set the stage for what a community should look like. They were devoted not only to teachings and prayer but also to each other through fellowship and sharing meals. The world we live in is missing unity and missing people that are devoted to each other. We want to stand out in this area. We are committed to becoming a place where we lay down our lives for those around us, as Philippians 2 says, to think of others as greater than ourselves. We want this to be a safe place. A place where there is no gossip or complaining. Where people are free to question and doubt and grow together. Hebrews 10:24-25 "Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near."
